If poets are to be beleived, eyes are the windows to the soul.

This is the view from my window.
Here, I demonstrate my astute observational skills. My objective in this drawing was to represent my contrasting drawing styles. In one technique, freehand and illustrative sketching transmits the energy of nature. Juxtaposed with this, the neat geometric shapes of artificial manmade landscape.

sketch at a city scale
My aim was to capture the frenetic energy of the site and show my analytical drawing skills. Working swiftly, I sketched from life. The drawing conveys the sense of movement and frisson of the crowd as I wanted to reflect, through detail, these qualities.

Landscape.
Fragile, durable and capricious are the words that come to my mind when thinking of nature.
Interior

This is my interior. I decided to sketch a small room in which I had the challenge of having many different perspective lines. I also aimed to ship the viewer inside the portrayal by having the doors of the closet wide open.

Big eyes

La Ermita de Colmenar Viejo

Very simple, straightforward sketch using pen and water. The scale in correlation with the objects in the drawing help the viewer perceive the size of the monument.
Building I would like to visit.

Composition based on different buildings with different perspective placed on an atmospherically and non-fixed background. Again, the use of different textures adds interest to the combination. Further on, the arrangement of the figures carries the viewer along the entire painting.

To explore materiality and texture, I decided to conceive a drawing using different fabrics and random arrangemets to achieve a sense of disorder and chaos. The final result has a powerful quality with an attractive composition.

Acrylics painting of a man smoking. The darkened and misty surrounding suggests a dramatic and thrilling environment. The smoke confines the painting and blends into the ambience.

For this drawing I used a water based pen along with a pencil. The objective was to create a 3D sketch as if the zebra was emerging from the paper. I accomplish this to be difficult to do, especially on the section in which the zebra is still materializing out of the drawing.

Review of a recent exhibition or building that I have visited

Presently completing my A2 year in art and design I have found myself over the past four years becoming more visually aware of my surroundings. This year in my art coursework, I recently had to travel to the centre of Madrid several times every week to be able to accomplish first hand sketches for my research. I visited the communications palace in order to explore this building in depth. I was enchanted by the imposing and grandiose towers, beyond; the skeleton of the building evokes all the details, together with the essence of its time. The milky pigmentation of the edifice brings to mind the distinction and the greatness of that generation. This awe-inspiring building has influenced me greatly in my practical coursework.

A work of architecture I would like to experience in person.

The building, GIGI campus, accomplished by KPMB Architects caught my attention due to the complexity of the structure and the materiality in which it is based. The geometries and space accompanied with the use of sustainable materials for its construction reminds us to the huge improvements in the sustainable housing system.  The clashing use of materials along with the perspective creates this innovative yet contemporary masterpiece. If I was actually lucky enough to visit the GIGI campus I think I would feel a sense of serenity and peacefulness due to its open planning and tremendous use of natural light.

Statement about my favourite architect.

I have been highly inspired by Alejandro Zaera’s work. Along with his independent way of thinking, accompanied with the originality of his buildings. His ability to adapt to different country’s necessities based on their cultural background backed up with a dynamic sense of space and applicability is something I look up to.

Why I want to study architecture at MSA

Having followed an extensive programme of university talks set up by my school and also attending a number of university fairs I was instinctively drawn to information I had obtained about MSA. From this knowledge I perceived that I would obtain the style and type of education and teaching that I am looking for to continue in architecture. Researching the available facilities offered and the infrastructures within MSA University I instinctively felt they would help me greatly in achieving my ambitions to study architecture as an undergraduate. Living in Madrid, which is a very young, vibrant and cultural city, I felt there were similarities to Manchester in its outgoing creative and inspiring nature. I was pleased with the location, the university prestige, the teaching, and the student population that would potentially be my home of study for the foreseeable future.  Above all, the proximity of the staff towards the students creates a intimate and affable environment.
